Introduction

Woman Scientist/Engineer of the Year Award

Since its launch in 2001, Woman Scientist/Engineer of the Year Award is awarded every year in recognition of outstanding achievements in R&D, technological innovation, human resource development, etc. By discovering role models in various fields, we aim to boost the morale of women in STEM and motivate them to conduct research.

About the Woman Scientist/Engineer of the Year Award
Purpose of establishment

To promote global leadership of women in STEM by discovering female leaders in STEM and expanding their roles

Award categories
  • Academic : Research in science and engineering
  • Industry : Technology innovation, technology transfer (licensing), commercialization, etc.
  • Promotion : Nurturing female talents in STEM, STEM education, popularization of science, policy and infrastructure establishment, etc.
Reward details
  • Number of award winners : 3 people (1 winner in each category)
  • Details of the reward : KRW 10 million each for the listing of the Minister of Science and ICT and prize money​
Eligibility

Women of Korean citizenship or Korean descent who are working for a domestic university, public research institute, company, etc.

Recommendation and Examination
How to Recommend Candidates
  • Group recommendation
    • the head of a science and technology organization/academic society/institution to which the candidate belongs
    • Where there is no affiliation, recommendation through <Candidate Discovery and Recommendation Agency>
  • Personal recommendation
    • Solidarity of at least three experts in the relevant field voluntarily formed
    • Winners of prestigious domestic and foreign awards and previous women's science and technology awards
Examination and selection
  • Divisional examination
    • Written evaluation and panel review through the evaluation committee by sector
  • a comprehensive review
    • Selection of the final winner through the Integrated Review Committee for Outstanding Scientists organized by the Ministry of Science and ICT

  • Preliminary document evaluation of official records and evidential data of candidates by sector

  • Three final winners are selected after reporting the results of the division review and reviewing the performance contents
