The Korea Foundation for Women in Science, Engineering and Technology (WISET; President Aree Moon) announced on the 1st that it has published the "2025 Best Practices Casebook for Women in Science and Technology Officers." This publication features successful cases from institutions that have effectively operated the officer system.

The "Officer System for Women in Science and Technology" designates employees within public research institutes and national universities as official officers. Their role is to perform cooperative tasks aimed at promoting the recruitment of female scientists and engineers, improving their status, and fostering a research culture that balances work and life.

Currently, 451 officers are active across 147 research institutes, public agencies, and universities in the science and technology sector. Since the introduction of the system, a total of 866 officers have participated, supporting the growth of female scientists and helping to build inclusive research cultures within their organizations.

WISET published this casebook to share the activities of officers across different institutions. The goal is to discover and spread best practices to generate more practical and meaningful results in the field.

The casebook includes best practices from five selected institutions:

Korea Aerospace Research Institute (KARI)

K-water Institute (Korea Water Resources Corporation)

Korea Research Institute of Standards and Science (KRISS)

Korea Railroad Research Institute (KRRI)

National Security Research Institute (NSRI)

Key cases include:

KARI: A research guidance program designed to nurture next-generation talent in the aerospace sector

K-water Institute: Mentoring programs to help new employees adapt to the organization.

KRISS: Establishment of an infant care class (0-year-old) at the institute’s daycare center

KRRI: Operation of a Recruitment Advisory Committee

NSR: Implementation of "W-Pass," a system designed to expand the recruitment ratio of female scientists.

WISET plans to continue supporting the creation of a STI ecosystem where all can participate, by maintaining close communication with researchers on site through the "Officer System for Women in Science and Technology”.

Meanwhile, the "2025 Best Practices Casebook for Women in Science and Technology Officers" is available for download in the "PR/Event Materials" section of the WISET website (https://www.wiset.or.kr/kor/index.do).
